DC trip - Part 1

We returned home this week from about 2 weeks in Washington DC and Rehoboth Beach, DE. Here is part 1 of our journey...

The boys always seem to enjoy airports and find interesting things to do while waiting to board our plane.
They were entertained for about an hour just going back and forth on the moving walkway!
We went to visit Grandpa Phil and to take in the sights.
We went to the Natural History Museum on the Mall...Dylan's not so sure about this place, but really enjoyed it once we got inside. I thought they would like the dinosaur room...but when we walked in both boys wanted to turn right around and go somewhere else! I think the sheer size of the skeletons was a bit daunting! Their favorite was the insect room and the room of skeletons of small mammals.

Then we headed across the mall to...
...the carousel!!
It was bloody hot and humid!! So we had to get some of the infamous red, white and blue popsicles sold on the mall for a small fortune.

I guess we tired out Grandpa Phil...he missed all the Popsicle hubbub!
We also managed to check out the outdoor sculpture garden near the Natural History Museum. The boys couldn't get over the big silver tree!

Again it was SO hot and humid that we stopped in the sculpture garden, took off our shoes and dipped our toes in the fountain. Truly, I was about to jump all the way in, in order to cool off!
We also went and visited some dear friends of my family, Marcia and Don, and had a lovely dinner and got to chase and catch fireflies with the boys. Phil graciously had some of our friends and family over for dinner one night...and we all had so much fun catching up that no one took pictures!! The boys got to meet several wonderful friends and their Great Aunt Nona and Great Uncle Paul!!

Cole is very into taking pictures now...he took this one of Grandpa Phil! The other pictures in this series were of various items found at the playground we were at...the sand, a wood chip, a handle to the climbing structure...

We scored at finding several great playgrounds. This one particular playground had it's own play structures that were very nice...but the amazing part was the hordes of toys left for all to play with. There were HUGE trucks and shovels and bikes and ride in cars and this huge backhoe-bulldozer ride on toy. Little boy HEAVEN...needless to say they did NOT want to go when it was time!!

But we had to go so we could get ready to go to the beach...
