Happy 6th Birthday!!!

Happy Birthday to my 6 year old boys!!
I don't know what it is about turning 6...but it sounds so OLD!  I'm just amazed at how quickly time flies.

We had an amazing birthday celebration starting with a visit from Nana and ending with a fun filled science party!

And of course amazing birthday cakes from Grandma Fiegener!!  She worked her magic with some fairly specific and crazy requests!!  Dylan asked for a cave cake with bats fling out in a forest.  And Cole asked for something different just about every time we talked about it...but settled on a cake that had a science research boat, the Titanic, water, land with trees, pirates on a mountain with a rope down the mountain to another pirate at the bottom of the mountain.  Way to go Grandma!

Our science party about to start with the scientists in their lab coats!

Sharpie pen art experiment turned out so amazing!  Sharpie pens on shirts then drip on rubbing alcohol to end up with beautiful tie-dye effects.

I was so excited they turned out well!

The kids enjoyed it too!

Making slime was a hit.

Vinegar and baking soda blowing up balloons was even amazing to the parents!

Swirling milk, food coloring, and dish soap experiment received many oooohhs and ahhhs.

All the parents came in the garage to watch the kids making snow.

No science party is complete with out some static electricity.

And you have to get a little dirty when you make quicksand with corn starch...Mom would have been smart to get a lab coat too!  Oh well cornstarch washes out right!?

And to top it off we had a spectacle of dry ice demonstrations...you should try mixing dry ice, warm water, and dish soap and see what fun you can have!

Everyone was excited to try the cake!

We wrapped up the celebrations with present opening with Nana...

Mining out the fools gold activity with Nana.

What a cool gift!  We thought it would take them several days to dig out all the fools gold...but then they discovered that water worked faster than the little digging tools provided with the kit!

Awesome shirt from Grammy Carol!!

Mom and Dad gave the boys the big Lego sets they were asking for...which they were so amazed by that it was a struggle to get them to go to bed before they were done being put together, a struggle to put them down to go any where and a struggle to leave them in the living room to eat a meal!  Yikes!!

I think Dylan and Cole thoroughly enjoyed their 6th birthday celebrations!!  It was funny because their birthday was on a Friday and their party on a Saturday...and they didn't think they really turned 6 until after their party!

Pumpkins and Halloween!

We managed to swing it that we went to our favorite pumpkin patch on a sunny day!
Dylan went down the big tube slide with style...and he was trying to slide down past the end of the black material.

Cole way up at the top of the big tube slide.

Needed to check out the bottom before going down...

We all really loved the green warty pumpkins!

Dylan happy to be on a hay ride!

We were trying not to get lost in the huge corn maze...Dylan thinks he knows where we need to go!

The boys are much more into posing for the camera these days...Cole liked this spot for me to take a picture of his mini-pumpkins that he picked out.

Being goofy!!

Between pumpkin patches Dylan and Mom went to hear the author and illustrator Jan Brett...and got to meet Hedgie the Hedgehog with our friend Jack!

Jan Brett was on her book tour for her newest book "Mossy" and while on stage she did an illustration demonstration of how to draw the turtle "Mossy".  Dylan loved it!

Both Dylan and Cole's classes went on field trips to local pumpkin patches...they went on different days and Dylan's class got the rain!

Dylan and his friends.

Dylan dragged me over to this spot so I could take a picture of him with all these perfect pumpkins!

Rob took Cole on his class field trip...and somehow they managed to get sun! Here is Cole playing with his best bud Luca.

The Willow Class having donuts and juice.

Ready for the hay ride!

While Dad and Cole were enjoying a sunny pumpkin patch field trip Mom was headed off to CA to visit our dearest friends Nicole, Matthew and Jonah!  Nicole was due with her second while I was there...but no baby so we spent our time cooking and freezing food for after the baby comes and visiting!

Matthew and Nicole live right outside of Yosemite so I also got to see our friend Parker and his daughter Phoebe!  It was the end of October and about 85 degrees!!

Mom made it back to Oregon for Halloween...my is that a vampire bat in a tree and a giant jack-o-lantern on the grass??

It sure is!

Those are my guys!!  Cole first suggested that he could be a blue button this year and just paint his red button costume from last year, blue!  Then he wanted to be a question mark (?) and then he settle on a giant jack-o-lantern since it was more Halloweeny.  Dylan had several friends who were going to be vampires so we settled on a vampire bat!  (can you see his fangs with blood dripping off?  That was an important feature!)

The boys and some friends at the annual library Halloween party (this is actually 3 sets of twins all about the same age!)

Here is our very scary door...Happy Halloween!
